Top 10 Best Epilators For Women Reviews

A woman’s job is never done. Trying to keep your legs smooth and beautiful all the time can be a real challenge. Shaving is time-consuming and not the most effective, as it’s easy to miss spots. Waxing is very effective but hurts like the dickens.

If you’re looking for a better solution, you should consider an epilator. Like waxing, epilators remove several hairs at a time but using a small, portable electrical device. Epilators are not necessarily pain-free, although that depends on a lot on each woman.

While epilators are very efficient and effective, most of us don’t know the first thing about picking out a good one. To help you make a good purchase, we’ve put together this handy guide that lists ten of the best epilators on the market.

Happy shopping!

Things to Consider

Just because you know what an epilator is and how it works, that doesn’t mean you’re ready to go out and buy one. Because if you don’t know what to look for in an epilator, how will you know if you’re buying gold or garbage? To help you in your quest, here are five tips to remember before buying anything.

1. Number of Tweezers

At the heart of every good epilator are the tweezers. Tweezers are the thing that makes epilators work, and the more tweezers and epilator has, the faster it’ll go. Low-end epilators have about 20 tweezers, and the most expensive have 72 or so.

2. Accessories

Just as beard trimmers or hair trimmers or even electric shavers sometimes come with accessories that transform them into all-purpose grooming kits for men, so too can epilators become that for women. Not all epilators come with accessories, but if you find one that does, think long and hard about it.

3. Wet or Dry?

This isn’t just a question for men. Epilators don’t work exactly as razors do, but they can work either wet or dry just like a razor. Epilators work better when the skin is dry, but they don’t hurt as much if the skin is wet.

4. Power Source

There are three types of power sources for epilators: standard batteries, rechargeable batteries, and corded epilators. Rechargeable epilators are probably the most convenient…unless you epilate on a regular basis, or you happen to share it with family or roommates.

5. Price

Epilators don’t have to cost a lot, and just like an electric razor, you can often find a good model for $20 or $30. If you want a really good epilator, however, you’re going to have to pay a little more.

EDITORS PICK

Picking the best epilator wasn’t an easy task. In fact, I spent hours agonizing over the decision. There was a lot of tough competition, and most of the epilators performed on a very similar lever. However, I was finally forced to admit that the Braun Silk-Epil 7 7-561 is the best epilator around.Braun Silk epil Wet Dry Epilation

10. Codream 4-in-1 Rechargeable Electric Epilator

Codream Rechargeable Electric EpilatorMost epilators cost at least $50, and many are $100 or more. That doesn’t mean that you can’t find cheaper models, however. While you’re not going to get the level of performance you’d expect from a more expensive model, that doesn’t mean you can’t get a good value from a cheap epilator.

If you’re not looking to spend too much on an epilator, the Codream 4-in-1 is a good, inexpensive option. In fact, I really like this model because, as the name suggests, it’s actually four tools in one. The Codream 4-in-1 comes with four different detachable heads. Obviously, one head is the epilator head. A second head is a callus remover. The last two heads are a clipper head and a shaver head. A power adapter and a cleaning brush are also included, and the epilator has two different speed settings.

As far as effectiveness goes, the callus remover and epilator attachments both work pretty well. The epilator only has 15 tweezers, so you’re not going to get amazing results, but it is satisfactory. The shaver and clipper aren’t as great, but they are very convenient if you’re traveling and don’t want to carry around a bunch of different tools. If you use an epilator on a regular basis, this might not be good enough for you, but if you’re looking for something cheap that gets the job done, this is a good value.

Pros:

  • Epilator has 15 tweezers
  • Four different head attachments
  • Includes rechargeable base

Cons:

  • Epilator is very loud

9. Philips HP6401 Satinelle Epilator

Best Philips HP Satinelle EpilatorIf you’re looking for something inexpensive that’s a little more focused than the Codream 4-in-1, then you might like the Philips HP6401 Satinelle. This epilator is ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in your hand.

This epilator has a couple of nice features. It’s 21 tweezers can remove hairs as short as 0.5 millimeters, and it has an efficiency cap that allows for gentler epilation in sensitive areas. The epilator has two different speed settings, and the head can be removed for easy cleaning.

The Satinelle isn’t going to blow your mind, but it’s not terrible either. While its compliment of 21 tweezers isn’t very much, it isn’t very expensive, and it does come with a two-year warranty. Bear in mind, however, that this is not a wireless epilator, so you’ll have to plug it in. However, it is dual voltage and works with 110-240 volts. If you’re looking for a nice, inexpensive epilator, this is probably your best bet.

Pros:

  • Epilator has 21 tweezers
  • Dual voltage from 110-240 volts
  • Includes efficiency cap

Cons:

  • Not cordless

8. Braun SE5280 Silk-épil 5 Epilators

Best Braun SE Silk epil EpilatorsWe’ve jumped up in price a little bit, and now we’re dealing with more traditional, standard epilators. This means they cost more, but it also means they’re going to work better. The Braun SE5280 Silk-épil 5 is the first of four Braun models on this list.

The first thing that I noticed about this epilator is that it has a lot more tweezers than the previous model – almost double, in fact. 40 tweezers are pretty standard for an epilator in this price range. What makes this epilator stand out are some of the special features.

Like the Philips Satinelle, the SE5280 can grab hairs as short as 0.5 millimeters, which is good. The epilator has several speed settings, including a high-frequency massage system that stimulates your skin, making epilation more comfortable. The head pivots as it follows your body, which makes it more comfortable to use, and a built-in Smartlight allows you to detect and remove small hairs that are difficult to see in normal light.

Also, epilator comes with two additional heads – a shaver and a trimmer – that give the epilator added versatility. The shaver attachments don’t work as well as a standard electric shaver, but they work well enough. This is a nice epilator with some handy features that doesn’t cost too much – all in all, a good deal. It is rechargeable and can run for 100 minutes before recharging.

Pros:

  • Epilator has 40 tweezers
  • Smartlight lets you find pesky hairs
  • Includes trimmer and shaver attachments

Cons:

  • Requires power converter for use outside US/Canada

7. Emjoi Soft Caress Epilator

Best Emjoi Soft EpilatorIf you’re looking for a more luxurious, ergonomic epilator than the Silk-épil 5, then you’ve come to the right place. The Emjoi Soft Caress Epilator is a stylish, feminine epilator that you’re sure to love.

The big selling point of the Soft Caress are the 36 tweezers, each of which is plated in 24-karat gold. This gold plating makes the Soft Caress hypoallergenic, perfect for women with nickel allergies or sensitive skin. It also has antimicrobial protection against harmful bacteria. Like most epilators, it can remove hairs as small as 0.5 millimeters.

This cute, pink-and-purple epilator has dual speed control and a massaging finger attachment. It provides smoother skin for up to six weeks, keeping you looking healthier and more beautiful. It is rechargeable and can be used with or without the cord. It’s not perfect, of course, and those who don’t have allergies or sensitive skin may prefer a different epilator. If you’re looking for a hypoallergenic epilator, however, this is a safe bet.

Pros:

  • Epilator has 36 tweezers
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Can be used with or without cord

Cons:

  • Epilator is very loud

6. Epilady Legend 4th Generation Rechargeable Epilator

Epilady Legend Generation EpilatorI don’t know if I’d go so far as to as to say that the Epilady Legend is legendary, but it is a very capable epilator. The motor in the Epilady Legend is capable of performing 32,000 tweezes per minute, so you know you’re in for something good. While it works very well, it lacks some of the features that made the Braun SE5280 so nice.

Like the Braun SE5280, Epilady Legend has 40 tweezers, each of them capable of tweezing 13 hairs every second at maximum speed. You don’t have to go that fast, of course; there are two different speed settings. But it’s nice to have options, isn’t it?

Like all good epilators, Epilady comes with a dual-voltage power adapter, allowing it to be plugged into 110-240 volt sockets. The ergonomic design includes rubber handles on each side, making it easier to grip the device as you use it. It comes with a power adapter, cleaning brush and carrying case.

Pros:

  • Epilator has 40 tweezers
  • Dual voltage from 110-240 volts
  • Capable of performing 32,000 tweezes per minute

Cons:

  • Works better on some areas than others

5. Panasonic ES-ED90-P Ladies Epilator/Shaver

Panasonic ESEDP Ladies ShaverThe first epilator I reviewed was the Codream 4-in-1 rechargeable epilator. While it was inexpensive and convenient, the epilator itself only had 15 tweezers, which was rather underwhelming. The Panasonic ES-ED90-P is designed with a similar idea in mind. In this case, however, the epilator has 48 individual tweezers, making it a far more effective combo.

While the epilator head is the main attraction here, there are some other useful attachments. There is a heel buffer/callus remover to smooth out your feet and remove unsightly calluses. A second is the wet/dry shaver attachment, which uses hypoallergenic blades for a safe, comfortable shave. Also included is a gentle epilation cap, which reduces the number of tweezers used for those just starting out with an epilator.

The extra attachments are great, but the epilator head is where the ES-ED90-P shines. The epilator head shifts to match the contours of your body. This makes it both more effective and more comfortable. The epilator also has a pop-up trimmer and a LED light to help you spot straggling hairs. This is one of the best epilators for the money, and a great choice for anyone who wants a quality epilator with a variety of useful attachments.

Pros:

  • Epilator has 48 tweezers
  • Six different head attachments
  • Includes rechargeable base

Cons:

  • Only runs for 30 minutes on a charge

4. Braun Silk-epil 7 7-561 Wet & Dry Epilator/Epilation

Braun Silk epil Wet Dry EpilationBraun describes the Silk-epil 7 7-561 as their most efficient epilator design. I suppose it could be. I didn’t notice a significant difference between the 7-561 and the two epilators that end this review.

That’s not damning praise, however. This epilator is amazing. It has some exciting and innovative features. For one, it can be used in the shower or bath, and the more you use it when your skin is wet, the easier and less painful it becomes. It also features a pivoting head, the SmartLight typical in Braun epilators and a shaver head attachment.

Although the seven 7-561 doesn’t have as many attachments as a lot of epilators, it does include one handy accessory: a bikini trimmer especially designed to eliminate unwanted hairs from the bikini area without waxing. It’s a pretty great tool, and I use it all the time. All in all, this is a very nice epilator set. I wish it came with a few more attachments, but as far as the quality of the epilator goes, I don’t know if you can find a better one at this price.

Pros:

  • Epilator has 40 tweezers
  • Extra-wide head removes hair faster
  • Includes bikini trimmer

Cons:

  • More attachments would be nice

3. Philips HP6576 Satin Perfect Deluxe Epilator

Philips HP Satin Perfect EpilatorThe Philips HP6576 Satin Perfect Deluxe is quite a few steps ahead of the last Philips epilator I reviewed. In addition to a ceramic epilator head with 32 tweezers, there are several other attachments included, such as a shaver, trimmer and active massage system.

The Satin Perfect Deluxe takes a new spin on the epilation process with their innovative ceramic head. The textured ceramic discs are designed to remove more hair than traditional epilators, and the contoured head follows the curves of your body, making epilation easier and more comfortable. The epilator also includes an integrated optic-light to make it easier to spot small hairs, and the massage head soothes your skin to prepare it for epilation.

Although this epilator can only run on battery power for about 40 minutes before it needs to recharge, it will run while charging as long as it is plugged into a power source. The Epilator is built with an ergonomic design, making it easier to grip and handle, and it is backed by a two-year warranty. If you’re looking for a fine epilator, you can’t go wrong with the Satin Perfect Deluxe.

Pros:

  • Epilator has 32 tweezers
  • Six different head attachments
  • Dual voltage from 110-240 volts

Cons:

  • Results with ceramic discs may be different than expected

2. Braun Silk-Epil 9 9-579 Bonus Edition Wet and Dry Cordless Epilator

Best Braun Silk Epil Bonus Edition Wet Dry CordlWe’ve come a long way since the Braun SE5280. Although the Braun Silk-Epil 9 9-579 has a lot of feature in common with the cheaper model – 40 tweezers, a SmartLight, common attachments – the devil is in the details.

Let’s first consider the defining feature of any epilator – the epilation head. Both of them have 40 tweezers built in, but that’s not the whole story. The epilation head on the 9 9-579 is almost half again larger than on the cheaper model. This allows you to remove more hairs in a single stroke, greatly speeding up the epilation process.

There are some other interesting features of this epilator. For example, it can be used either wet or dry. That means you can use it in the shower after your skin has been softened by the water and your pres have loosened up. This is significantly less painful than dry epilation. It also comes with some bonus attachments, including a shaver head and trimmer cap, a high-frequency massage cap, a charging stand and a facial brush.

There’s a lot to like in this epilator, and it’s easily one of the best epilators on the market. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better one.

Pros:

  • Epilator has 40 tweezers
  • Extra-wide head removes hair faster
  • Dual voltage from 110-240 volts

Cons:

  • None

1. Braun Silk-epil 9 Skinspa 9-961V 5-in-1 Epilator

Best Braun Silk epil Skinspa V EpilatorBraun really makes a superior epilator. The Braun Silk-epil 9 Skinspa is so much like the nine 9-579 that I almost couldn’t tell it apart. Both have extra-wide pivoting epilation heads that follow the contours of your body, a SmartLight to spot straggling hairs, and both can be used either in or out of a shower.

The only difference here is in the attachments, and I love the difference. The Skinspa lives up to its name, as it comes with three detachable heads. One is a deep massage pad designed to stimulate blood flow, giving you a natural rosy appearance. The other two are exfoliation brushes: a gentle one for sensitive areas and a deep exfoliation for your legs and arms. There is also a shaver, which is useful for trimming hairs down to a length the epilator can remove.

To be honest, I don’t really have anything negative to say about this epilator. It’s amazing. The epilator itself is no better than the last two Braun models, but if you can afford to indulge yourself, the exfoliating brushes are worth the expense.

Pros:

  • Epilator has 40 tweezers
  • Extra-wide head removes hair faster
  • Includes special attachments for massaging and exfoliating

Cons:

  • None

Conclusion

If you’ve made it all the way here, you probably have a much better idea of what to look for in an epilator, and what not to look for. Epilators come in a wide assortment of prices and styles, but if you really want the best, you need to buy Braun. Happy epilating!
